It is an Open Source spreadsheet and free software compatible with Microsoft Excel. It is part of the Openffice.org office suite. As with all components of the OpenOffice.org suite, Calc can be used across a variety of platforms, including Mac OS X, Windows, GNU / Linux, FreeBSD and Solaris, and is available under LGPL license.
Calc: It is a spreadsheet similar to Microsoft Excel, with a more or less equivalent range of characteristics. Its size is much smaller and provides a number of features not present in Excel, including a system that automatically defines series to represent graphically based on the disposition of user data.
Gnumeric, integrated in GnomeOffice
It is a free spreadsheet that is part of the GNOME desktop environment. Its intention is to become an alternative to other spreadsheets such as Microsoft Excel.
Gnumeric is able to import and export data in different formats, which makes it compatible with other programs such as Excel, Applix, Quattro Pro, PlanPerfect, Sylk, DIF, Oleo, SC, StarOffice, OpenOffice.org, and Lotus 1-2- 3. Its native format is XML, compressed with gzip.
Gnumeric is distributed according to the conditions of the GNU General Public License (GNU).
Numbersintegrated in Iworkde Apple
It is a spreadsheet application developed by Apple Inc. as part of the iWork productivity suite (which also includes Keynote and Pages). Numbers 1.0 was announced on August 7, 2007 and works only on Mac OS X v10.4 “Tiger” and Mac OS X v10.5 “Leopard”. Numbers 2.0 was announced on January 6, 2009 with the new MathType and EndNote features.
The main competitor of Numbers is Microsoft Excel. As an introductory demonstration, Steve Jobs launched an easier to use interface, accessible to laymen and offering better control over the appearance and presentation of data tables.
It includes more than 250 functions, a clear explanation of the formula and a built-in help system.
Display in Formula List: Allows you to see all the calculations of the sheet at the same time.
Table categories: Allows to group the data of any column and create categories of tables. Each category includes a summary row with which you can replicate, unfold and reorganize the different categories.
Graphs: Combines series of rows, columns and areas in a single mixed graph. Create biaxial charts with different scales of values. Apply trend lines and error bars.
Related graphics: Numbers, Keynote and Pages work in coordination to gather all the data in one page. It is possible to create graphs in Numbers and paste them in Pages documents or in Keynote presentations, while the original Numbers data remains linked. Even if the styles, textures, colors and fonts are modified, the data does not change.
Optimized Template Selector: Offers 12 new ideas and designs to create a spreadsheet, 30 in total.
Convertibility: Export of spreadsheets to PDF files. You can open Microsoft Excel files with Numbers and save the Numbers spreadsheets in Excel format. With the option of electronic mail, Numbers, Excel or PDF files can be sent directly from Numbers through Mac OS X Mail
